Different limits for family and medical
The weekly figures aren't the same for every reason. Family leave (bonding, or caring for a seriously ill relative) runs up to 12 weeks. Your own serious medical condition runs up to 20. If you need both in the same benefit year, the two together are capped at 26 weeks.
A birth parent can take medical leave to recover from childbirth and then move straight into bonding family leave without serving a second waiting week, up to that 26-week ceiling. The benefit is a percentage of your average weekly wage, up to a maximum that rose to $1,230.39 a week for 2026.
Who qualifies
There's no employer-size minimum and no tenure requirement to collect the benefit. What matters is having earned enough in Massachusetts over the qualifying period. Apply and track your claim at mass.gov.
