New York Paid Family & Medical Leave: Do You Qualify?
New York runs its paid leave through insurance carriers rather than a state fund, and unlike some programs, Paid Family Leave here comes with job protection attached.

Bonding and family care, with your job protected
Paid Family Leave covers up to 12 weeks to bond with a new child, care for a seriously ill family member, or manage a military-deployment situation. Its pay and its job protection are the same entitlement. Take PFL and your right to return comes with it, which isn't true in every state.
Your own illness or injury runs through a separate track, Disability Benefits Law coverage, at up to 26 weeks. For a birth, a parent can take DBL to recover and then PFL to bond consecutively, though the two together can't exceed 26 weeks in a 52-week window.
Who qualifies
Eligibility is based on time worked rather than employer size: roughly 26 weeks for full-time employees, or 175 days for part-time. Because coverage runs through the employer's insurance, most private employees are in. Details at paidfamilyleave.ny.gov.
The only way to know where you land is to run your own numbers: your tenure, hours, employer size, and reason for leave all move the answer. Leavely's free assessment walks through it in a couple of minutes and shows both whether you'll be paid and whether your job is protected.
