Oregon Paid Family & Medical Leave: Do You Qualify?
Paid Leave Oregon covers your wages for family, medical, or safe leave, and a 2024 change to the older OFLA law reshaped how much total time some people can string together.

How long, and the OFLA wrinkle
Paid Leave Oregon runs up to 12 weeks in a benefit year, or up to 14 when it's tied to pregnancy or childbirth. The benefit is a share of your wages, weighted so lower earners get a higher percentage.
Here's what changed: since July 2024, the older Oregon Family Leave Act was narrowed to cover only pregnancy disability, sick-child leave, and bereavement, which Paid Leave Oregon doesn't cover. Because the two no longer overlap, OFLA time is taken in addition to Paid Leave Oregon rather than at the same time. In practice a parent can string together OFLA pregnancy-disability leave, then Paid Leave Oregon bonding, then OFLA sick-child leave, well past a single 12-week entitlement.
Who qualifies
The paid benefit is earnings-based and reaches employees regardless of company size. Job protection under Paid Leave Oregon attaches after 90 days with the employer. Apply at paidleave.oregon.gov.
The only way to know where you land is to run your own numbers: your tenure, hours, employer size, and reason for leave all move the answer. Leavely's free assessment walks through it in a couple of minutes and shows both whether you'll be paid and whether your job is protected.
